Panalpina offers Value-Added Logistics Services at Huntsville hub
Huntsville, Alabama, the heart of Panalpina’s own controlled air freight network in the US has been flanked by a logistics powerhouse with the opening of a new facility for Value-Added Logistics Services. The facility, named Huntsville Logistics Center (HLC), is strategically located next to the Panalpina Huntsville hub. HLC provides complete kitting and parts assembly for some of the world’s largest well known hi-tech manufacturers. In addition, the fully equipped 40,000 square foot facility offers temperature controlled storage areas for Panalpina customers in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Panalpina and TomTom Renew Agreement for Air Freight
TomTom has renewed its agreement with Panalpina to ship several of its GPS products by air freight from China to the US. Through the agreement, the world’s leading provider of navigation products and services has also awarded Panalpina with the shipment of the recently unveiled Nike+ SportWatch GPS Powered by TomTom. The SportWatches are flown from Hong Kong with Panalpina’s ‘Dragon Wings’ own-controlled freighter service.

Panalpina strengthens own controlled air freight network with a second direct weekly flight between Hong Kong and Huntsville
The global forwarding and logistics group Panalpina has strengthened its own controlled air freight network with the addition of an exclusive direct cargo flight between Huntsville, Alabama and Hong Kong. The new weekly flight strategically enhances the existing Dragon Wings express air service from Hong Kong to Huntsville, Alabama and further strengthens the Brazilian Wings express service which offers an airport-to-airport transit time of 30 hours from Hong Kong via Huntsville to São Paulo in Brazil. As with its sister services – Dragon Wings and Brazilian Wings – Panalpina is using Boeing 747-400F aircraft operated by Atlas Air.

Panalpina with solid start into 2011
In the first quarter of 2011, the Panalpina Group reported strong double digit growth in profitability compared to the first quarter 2010 and volume increases in Air and Ocean Freight. Gross profit increased by 14% (+22% currency adjusted) year-on-year to CHF 373 million which, together with ongoing cost discipline, led to a jump in EBITDA to CHF 56 million (Q1 2010: CHF 10 million). The growth in profitability and improvements in working capital management resulted in an excellent operating cash flow of CHF 108 million (Q1 2010: CHF -13 million).

Panalpina with market share gains and significantly improved profitability
The 2010 financial year saw the Panalpina Group achieve double-digit volume growth in its Air and Ocean Freight businesses, while also expanding its market share. Net forwarding revenue rose by 20% to CHF 7,164 million. The new organization has proven successful with costs only rising moderately despite the strong growth. Productivity as well as profitability have improved significantly yielding in a gross profit increase of 7.5% (11.4% currency adjusted) to CHF 1,480 million.

Panalpina with market share gain, profitability improvement and strong free cash flow in third quarter 2010
In the first nine months of 2010, the Panalpina Group recorded strong volume growth with a 27% increase in Air and a 16% increase in Ocean Freight year-on-year while continuing to outpace the market in both segments; profitability per freight unit (currency adjusted) continued to increase quarter-on-quarter. Gross profit increased in the third quarter by 13% year-on-year (19% in local currencies). Productivity remained at high levels with expenses growing moderately to accommodate increasing shipment volumes. A settlement in the U.S. anti-trust case has been reached and the final settlement of the FCPA case is expected before year end.

Panalpina gains market share and significantly improves profitability
In the second quarter of 2010, the Panalpina Group posted substantial growth in forwarding volumes in both air freight (+36%) and ocean freight (+19%), gaining market share in both segments. At the same time, the company increased profitability per freight unit quarter-on-quarter and was able to keep costs tightly under control. The settlement negotiations with the U.S. authorities should be concluded in the second half of the year. In the second quarter, Panalpina set aside a CHF 128 million compliance provision to cover expected fines and future compliance consultancy costs.

U.S. Authorities settle civil complaint against Panalpina
Among other parties, Panalpina Houston had been named as a defendant in a qui tam civil complaint filed several years ago by a private party on behalf of the U.S. Government. In the complaint it is alleged that, in connection with the provision of logistics services, a former employee of Panalpina has provided unlawful entertainment to employees of a customer. According to a settlement agreement reached with the U.S. Authorities, Panalpina will pay USD 375,000.

The Panalpina Group reports strong volume growth in both air (+24%) and ocean freight (+22%) in the first quarter of 2010. Gross profit declined by 13% year-on-year but increased by 5% quarter-on-quarter. Costs were kept at low levels. Panalpina with strong free cash flow generation and stringent cost control but lower volumes and gross profit
In 2009, Panalpina, the global forwarding and logistics service provider, has transported lower volumes and generated a smaller gross profit, compared to 2008, for a variety of reasons, including a harsh economic environment and a very volatile market. Trade global volumes dropped at an unprecedented rate, affecting most core markets. Net forwarding revenue decreased by 32.9%, gross profit by 20.9% (16.9% in local currencies) and consolidated profit by 90.8%. The company reacted early to the difficult situation, downsizing its cost base by 14% and thus over-achieved its cost reduction target. The focus on cash generation resulted in a free cash flow increase of 33% to CHF 226 million. Panalpina also adapts its organizational structure due to the changed market environment.

Panalpina reports a 39% increase in free cash flow despite lower volumes and gross profits
The Panalpina Group significantly increased its transport volumes in the third quarter of 2009 compared to the second quarter of 2009. Air freight volumes grew by 10% and ocean freight volumes by 13%. Compared to the first nine months of 2008, free cash flow increased by 39% to CHF 161 million despite 18.5% lower gross profits. In terms of operating costs, Panalpina is well on track to achieve the previously announced full year CHF 130 million reduction.

Panalpina and Atlas Air extend their cooperation
The global forwarding and logistics group Panalpina and its long-time airline partner Atlas Air have renewed their cooperation agreement. Within this cooperation, Panalpina provides own-controlled capacity between Europe, North America and Mexico and links the company’s Oil & Gas hubs. While transport volumes have picked up significantly, gross profit performance falls short of the previous quarter
Panalpina, the global transport and logistics group, significantly increased its transport volumes in the air and ocean freight segments in the third quarter of 2009 as compared with the second quarter. That said, based on a 9-month comparison, volume growth and gross profit performance remained significantly below expectations. Panalpina achieves a solid result in a difficult market environment
Thanks to strict cost management and a consistently implemented cost-cutting program, the Panalpina Group succeeded in significantly reducing its cost base year-on-year and as a result was able to compensate for the fall in volume. Compared to the prior-year period, free cash flow increased by 175%, and compared to the first quarter of 2009, air freight volume rose in the second quarter of 2009 by 3%, ocean freight by 8%. A large number of new business deals in the SME customer segment failed to compensate for the falloff in volume from large customers. Currency fluctuations had a negative impact on results. Gross profit fell by 15% compared with the same period in 2008 (-11.5% in local currency terms). Net earnings for the first six months amounted to CHF 16.9 million.

Panalpina achieves considerable cash flow increase
The Panalpina Group more than quadrupled free cash flow and grew gross profit per unit of cargo well above 20% in the first quarter 2009. In a very difficult market environment, the company’s gross profit declined by 11,4% compared to the same period of 2008 (-7.7% in local currencies). Solvay awards Panalpina with additional air freight business
Panalpina, one of the world’s leading providers of transport and logistics services, has been awarded significant further business from its customer Solvay Chemicals. The new air freight services will be in addition to the 13 000 TEU ocean freight per year that Panalpina already transports for Solvay. Solvay operates in pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastics and has 400 units in over 50 countries.

The global freight transport and logistics group Panalpina continued its strong organic growth and again improved its profitability in the first nine months of 2007. Substantial new business wins in the major strategic key industries helped to further increase market shares in all areas. Gross profit grew by 16.4%, Ebit by 33.1% and net earnings by 33.3%.

Anti-trust investigation in the forwarding industry
In connection with alleged concerted practices in the area of transportation services, on 10 October 2007 the Swiss Federal Competition Commission (Weko) conducted a search also of the premises of Panalpina in Basel. A similar investigation by US anti-trust authorities has been conducted in the company’s headquarters in the USA.

Panalpina suspends disputed services in Nigeria and confirms 2007 annual targets
Panalpina, one of the world’s leading suppliers of forwarding and logistic services, has suspended part of its service offering in Nigeria including its temporary importation services for oil and gas customers. The announcement is made today at Panalpina’s Investor Day in London. The suspension of these services and its potential impact on certain global agreements with oil and gas customers is expected to have an effect on the group’s Ebitda; for the current fiscal year this is estimated to be between CHF 20 to 30 million. Despite this impact, the Company has confirmed its positive outlook and financial guidance for 2007.

Panalpina and NYK reach agreement on a global cooperation
Panalpina and the NYK Group have agreed to cooperate both in Japan and internationally. The two companies can ideally support each other due to their complementary geographic networks and similar business models. According to the agreement, the NYK subsidiary Yusen Air & Sea Service (YAS) will become Panalpina’s agent in Japan whilst Panalpina will represent YAS’ interests in various countries in addition to its existing network.
