With the HLC, Panalpina is increasing its in-house logistics capabilities. This is part of Panalpina’s recently specified strategy where the core service offering, Air and Ocean Freight, is to be consequently complemented by Supply Chain Services (SCS) and Value Added Services (VAS) in Logistics.
Rick Jordon, Senior Vice President Supply Chain Solutions, USA, said: “Our goal is to provide customers with fully integrated and customizable supply chain solutions. Our offering in Huntsville is a prime example of this. Customers can use our reliable own controlled air freight network, benefit from a multitude of advanced warehouse services, customizable IT enhancements and direct access to our advanced road feeder service.” The HLC has been operational since July 1, 2011. It will not only service many of Panalpina’s largest hi-tech customers but also provide solutions for customers in the healthcare and chemicals industry with temperature controlled storage and transport capabilities.
Rick Tucker, Executive Director, Port of Huntsville, said: “We are pleased that Panalpina continues to expand and grow their presence at Huntsville International Airport. This new logistic center will only enhance their first class cargo operations and expanded international flight schedule. We look forward to partnering with Panalpina on other innovative logistics solutions.”
Huntsville International Airport serves as the center of the Port of Huntsville, a multifaceted transportation complex that combines cargo movement and passenger travel with business and industry. Huntsville International Airport serves approximately 1.25 million passengers annually with more than 80 daily flights and non-stop service to 12 destinations. The International Intermodal Center, located adjacent to the airport, provides the ability for companies to transfer, distribute and store products and goods in a designated Foreign Trade Zone. The combination of rail, air and highway modes of transportation – coupled with the onsite service of US Customs, USDA, freight forwarders and brokers – makes the Intermodal Center attractive to local and regional industrial companies. Huntsville’s International Air Cargo Center consists of nearly 300,000 square feet of building space, including more than 5,000 square feet of cold storage, and one million square feet of ramp area. Direct Panalpina international 747 air cargo service is available to South America, Europe and Asia, as well as Mexico.
