Panalpina provides new logistics services to Schlumberger
09/07/2006

The global transport and logistics group Panalpina has been awarded new business from its customer Schlumberger Oilfield Services. The portfolio will consist of logistics and distribution services in the Europe, Caspian and Africa region. Schlumberger is the leading service provider to the worldwide oil and gas industry.

Panalpina has run operations from Schlumberger-owned and leased premises at Moerdijk/Netherlands since 2002. According to the new agreement, this cooperation has been extended and expanded to include additional logistics and distribution services.

Due to increased business activity and to align the regions’ logistics strategy to its worldwide standard, Schlumberger decided to eliminate its hub. Panalpina won the tender to provide a replacement hub, which will be managed and operated on behalf of Schlumberger. Following its asset-light strategy, Panalpina has leased premises where the new Oil &Gas hub will be located.

There were several crucial factors for this success, among them the geographical location and the size of Panalpina’s newly proposed hub, the expertise of Panalpina’s teams, as well as the company’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environment set-up.

“We are excited about the new Supply Chain Management business,” explains Frank Bichowski, Schlumberger Global Key Account Manager at Panalpina. “There has been a selection process which meant a realistic benchmarking of Panalpina and we are proud to have met Schlumberger’s requirements,” adds Bichowski. Panalpina has been providing transport and logistics services for Schlumberger for several decades, using air- and ocean freight as well as road- and rail services.
