Budapest – Panalpina’s new air freight product
05/23/2008

The global freight transport and logistics group Panalpina offers its customers a new service that responds to the growing demand for flexible air freight solutions. This exclusive service offers Panalpina’s first direct freighter link from Hungary, into Russia and Hong Kong

As Panalpina continues to strive to offer innovative solutions, a new ‘own-controlled’ air freight service has been introduced to serve the needs of our key industry customers in Eastern Europe, namely within the Telecommunication, Automotive and Hi-tech industries.

Panalpina’s ‘own-controlled’ air freight service is a customer-driven concept that offers flexibility and guarantees year-round capacity to destinations that customers demand. Panalpina arranges, with selected airlines, scheduled freighter flights, in which the capacity is completely managed by Panalpina. Panalpina has offered this service for many years and it has proven to be very popular, particularly with customers in the different industry verticals Panalpina is active in.

Since 27 April 2008, this exclusive new service offers the first direct freighter link out of Hungary into Russia and The Far East. The flight arrives in Budapest from Hong Kong every Sunday night, continuing its journey onto Moscow before returning to Hong Kong.

In close collaboration between the different Panalpina entities, this new service also offers a road and rail distribution service from Moscow, to serve the main cities of The Russian Federation. “Specifically-selected road feeder service concepts enable us to reach all important industrial cities in Central Eastern Europe with the most optimal transit time,“ states Rolf Hauer, Managing Director of Panalpina’s Austria/CEE/Turkey Area.

After operating in the Eastern Europe region for many years, this new service strengthens Panalpina’s network. According to the Head of Corporate Air Freight, Robert Frei, “Since servicing Budapest via road feeder service to and from Western Europe, we have now built enough volume and confidence from customers in order to launch our first own-controlled flights from Budapest.”
