For the fifth consecutive year, Panalpina supported UNICEF by flying much-needed relief goods to the African continent. In 2017, this flight went to South Sudan, where a civil war and a major economic crisis have exacerbated poverty and malnutrition. At least half the population—about six million people—are severely food insecure, with a total of 1.7 million people on the brink of famine.
In mid-December 2017, the flight chartered by Panalpina brought 80 tons of supplies provided by UNICEF to Entebbe, where it was off-loaded and trucked to South Sudan. The goods included water tanks and purification tablets, tents, sleeping mats, tarpaulins, sterilization kits, medicines and children’s toys.
