Panalpina has joined over 140 companies that have committed to set rigorous targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions. These reductions will play an important role in limiting global warming to 2 degrees, the threshold under which many dangerous outcomes of planetary warming may be avoided. Science Based Targets is a joint initiative by the Carbon Disclosure Project, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and World Wildlife Federation, and is designed to increase corporate ambition towards climate protection by introducing a new approach to corporate GHG emissions reduction target-setting.
In committing to the Science Based Target Initiative, Panalpina has agreed to actively manage emissions through energy reductions and stakeholder engagement, while working with stakeholders to collaborate on emissions reduction programs.
Environmental impacts are managed under the framework of Panalpina’s ISO 14001 certified global environmental management system. This comprehensive management system provides management and employees with clear procedures, guidelines and requirements for documentation regarding a variety of environmental performance and compliance issues.
In 2017, Panalpina became the first company in its sector to be certified to the new version of the Environmental Standard ISO14001:2015. The latest version of the environmental standard evaluates leadership involvement, engagement of employees and the initiatives the company implemented that contributed to a 16% reduction in CO2 emissions since 2013.
Collaborative platform EcoVadis invites companies to assess the environmental and social performance of their global suppliers. Panalpina’s customers can impartially rate the company in relation to its CSR initiatives and how it manages its economic, social, and environmental impacts, including its relationships with employees, customers, suppliers and industry bodies. The results are then measured against other companies in its industry.
In 2017, Panalpina elected to be evaluated through the ratings system for the first time and was awarded Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) gold level. Panalpina was also recognized as being in the top 1% in its industry, and the top 2% of all 30,000 companies being assessed.
